Optimize a page
Use this workflow to improve one product, collection, page, blog post, or the home page with SEO Audit, AI tools, and Image optimization. For the meaning of each check, see SEO analysis criteria.
Always review AI-generated text before you apply and save it. SEOEngine can suggest keyphrases, metadata, and alt text; you decide what to keep.
Before you begin
- Complete Quick start so the app embed is enabled
- Open SEOEngine from your Shopify admin
Find a page in SEO Audit
- From SEOEngine, go to SEO Audit.
- Select the tab for the page type you want to view, such as Products or Blog posts.
- Use the search bar to locate items by title or URL handle.
- Apply filters if needed. Depending on the page type, you can filter by status, SEO score, or product attributes.
- Select an item to open the page editor.
For full list and filter details, see SEO Audit.
Set keyphrases and review SEO analytics
In the page editor:
- Under Keyword settings, set a Focus keyphrase and optional Related keyphrases. Without a focus keyphrase, the app cannot calculate a full SEO score for the page.
- Review the SEO analytics panel as you edit. It shows SEO and Readability scores and recommendations filtered as Issues, Improvements, or Good results.
- Update fields such as title, body content, Meta title, Meta description, URL handle, social sharing details, and Advanced settings for indexing and link following.
- Save your changes when the save bar appears.
For check definitions and recommended ranges, see SEO analysis criteria.
Use AI suggestions (review before saving)
You can use built-in AI helpers in the SEO Audit editor. Review every AI suggestion before applying and saving.
Set AI tone and language
- In the page editor, select AI settings.
- Choose Language and Tone, or enter a custom tone description.
- Select Save.
Fix issues with AI
- In the SEO analytics panel, find a recommendation with issues, then select Fix with AI (or Fix all with AI).
- In Generate with AI, optionally add product features or custom target keywords, confirm tone and language, and select the fields to update.
- Select Generate.
- Review the AI-generated text. Select Apply on individual fields, or Apply all.
- Select Save to update the page.
On the home page, meta fields are controlled by your theme settings and cannot be updated with the app’s AI tool. Some AI generation features require the page to have a title first.
Generate image alt text with AI
- In the Media section, select Generate Alt image with AI on an image card.
- Review the suggested alt text, edit it if needed, and save.
Find keyphrase suggestions
- Ensure the page has a title, then select Find focus keyphrase.
- After a focus keyphrase is set, select Find related keyphrases.
- Review the suggestions list, then select Apply on the terms you want.
For full AI steps, see About AI, Fix with AI, Keyphrase suggestions, and Image alt text.
Optimize images for the page or in bulk
For a single page, update media and alt text in the SEO Audit editor. For bulk compression or alt text templates:
- From SEOEngine, open Image optimization.
- On Optimize images, choose image sources and a compression method, set quality, optionally select Keep backup for restoration, then select Optimize now.
- On Optimize image alt text, enable resource types, enter templates, optionally select Optimize only images missing alt text, then select Optimize now.
For configuration details and history, see Image compression and Image alt text templates.
Home page note
On the Home page tab in SEO Audit, you can review recommendations, but the home page meta title and meta description are managed by your Shopify theme. Select Go to Theme Preferences to update the home page search engine listing in Shopify admin.
After you save
- On the Dashboard, select Re-scan to refresh SEO overview counts for that resource type.
- If catalog data looks outdated, select Sync now first, then Re-scan.
See Dashboard and Common issues if counts do not update as expected.
