Site verification ​

Site verification proves to search engines and online platforms that you own your store. Verifying ownership grants access to search metrics, diagnostic data, and advanced crawling configurations in those platforms’ webmaster tools. Site verification lets you add ownership verification meta tags to your theme without manually editing code.

To verify your store, enable site verification in the app, paste the code provided by the external platform, and save your changes.

Before you begin ​

  • SEOEngine is installed and open in your Shopify admin.
  • You have a verification code or complete <meta> tag from the platform you want to verify with.

Add verification tags to your storefront ​

You can verify your store with several major search engine webmaster platforms and social platforms.

Site verification fields

  1. From SEOEngine, open Site verification.
  2. Turn on the Enable site verification toggle.
  3. Paste the verification code or the complete <meta> tag provided by your platform into the corresponding field:
    • Google Search Console verification: Prove ownership to Google.
    • Bing Webmaster Tools verification: Prove ownership to Bing and Yahoo.
    • Yandex Webmaster verification: Prove ownership to Yandex.
    • Baidu Webmaster Tools verification: Prove ownership to Baidu.
    • Pinterest domain verification: Verify your store domain for Pinterest business features.
  4. Select Save.

The app automatically injects these verification tags into the header code of your storefront. After saving your settings, return to the platform where you generated the code (such as Google Search Console or Pinterest) and select their Verify button to complete the registration.

NOTE

You can retrieve your verification keys from the setup helper or settings page of each platform. Enter only the plain verification code or the specific <meta> tag format indicated in the app fields.

If verification fails after you save in SEOEngine, confirm the code format in the app field, then retry verification on the external platform. For recurring failures, see Common issues.
